Knife attack leaves two injured in Berlin
Authorities are now investigating the motive for the attack, but according to Berlin police spokeswoman Jane Berndt, there is no indication of political or religious motivation.
“Initial findings indicate that the suspect may have signs of mental illness and that there is no indication of a terrorist motive,” Berndt told The Associated Press. The alleged attacker is a Syrian citizen residing in Sweden.

Germany has been the scene of attacks with firearms or sharp objects in recent years carried out by extremists or people with serious psychological disorders. The issue has been used to fuel political disputes over immigration.
In 2023, at least five incidents of this type gained prominence. In January, two people died in a knife attack on a train traveling between Kiel and Hamburg.
In March, a shooting attack at a Jehovah’s Witnesses meeting place in Hamburg left seven people dead.
