The last weekend of 2024 should be rainy across the country. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), a lot of rain is expected from Friday (27) in the central part of the country, especially in the Southeast region.

Between the night of this Thursday (26) and Friday (27), a new episode of the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS) takes place in the country.

“The ZCAS is responsible for promoting consecutive days of cloudy weather, considerable volumes of rain, sometimes persistent, which can cause impacts on the population. The areas where the most significant rainfall occurs will be those in which the ZCAS operates, that is, from the southwest of the Amazon, crossing the Center-West and Southeast regions of the country, to the Atlantic Ocean. Pay special attention to the Southeast, where impacts may occur on the population in the coming days, as the ZCAS may operate until next Monday”, explains Inmet meteorologist Maitê Coutinho.

According to her, in the North region, the forecast is for many clouds with rain showers and possible isolated thunderstorms. In the Northeast region, there should be many clouds with isolated rain showers on the north coast and east coast of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and Pernambuco, especially in the morning. In the interior of the region, the weather is expected to remain hot, with a low probability of rain.

In the South region, between the 26th and 27th, areas of instability will form, with the possibility of isolated rain in Paraná and the extreme south of Rio Grande do Sul.

On Saturday (28), the trend is for firm weather in the interior of the region, with the possibility of isolated rain on the coast. On the 29th, the chances of rain decrease, but still persist between the coast of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the Emergency Management Center (CGE) in the capital of São Paulo, the trend for the next few days in the city of São Paulo is for rainy days since the early hours of Friday, with small periods of improvement.

“The soaked soil and the expectation of periods of heavy rain keep the soil wet and conditions favorable for the formation of floods and landslides in risk areas. Thermometers fluctuate between a minimum of 20°C and a maximum of 24°C”, says the CGE.

On Saturday (28), the frontal system moves away towards the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. However, soggy ground still requires attention as there is potential for slips.

There are sunny spells in the morning and the temperature rises again. In the afternoon, due to the muggy weather, isolated and rapid rain with moderate intensity is expected – minimum of 20°C and maximum of 26°C.

The Civil Defense of the state of São Paulo is alerting the population to the heavy rains and has once again set up the crisis office to guarantee quick action for the population in the event of an emergency caused by the rains forecast for this Thursday and Friday.

“With the arrival of a cold front, the levels of accumulated rain may vary in the next few hours, especially in the regions of the North Coast, Vale do Paraíba, South Coast, the capital of São Paulo, the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, the Region of Campinas, Sorocaba and Bauru”, informed the Civil Defense.
