Liberal Party repudiates in note rejection of Bolsonaro's house arrest

The Liberal Party published a note this Tuesday (6) in which it said it was “dissatisfied” with the accident that occurred with former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the cell of the Federal Police Superintendence, in Brasília, and asked for reconsideration of the request for house arrest by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

The demonstration takes place after Bolsonaro fell and hit his head in the early hours of Tuesday. The former president was returned to the DF Star hospital, where he had undergone surgery during Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

“The Liberal Party publicly vehemently repudiates the rejection of the request for house arrest for Jair Messias Bolsonaro, requested after his discharge from hospital on 12/29/25. Keeping Jair Messias Bolsonaro detained at the Federal Police is unreasonable”, says the party.

The caption continues: “They are keeping a 70-year-old man in prison, recently operated on, in poor health as a result of the stab wound he received in 2018, in an attempted political assassination that, to this day, is still under investigation.”

The party also praised Bolsonaro as “the greatest conservative leader in this country” and says that the justification for threatening public order is “unacceptable”.

“The Liberal Party is unhappy with the accident that occurred with Jair Bolsonaro in the PF cell and, being the largest right-wing party in Brazil, it registers the indignation of its members and gives voice to millions of conservative citizens of this country who are alongside Jair Messias Bolsonaro and his family”, says the note. “We trust in God, in Justice and ask the Brazilian Supreme Court for reconsideration”, he adds.

Bolsonaro is sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison, as part of the coup plot process. The rapporteur of the STF inquiry, Alexandre de Moraes, rejected on January 1st Bolsonaro’s defense request in favor of house arrest. For the judge, the former president did not present “supervening facts” to grant the request.
