  • More than 155 million Brazilians will be able to go to the polls this Sunday (6), from 8 am to 5 pm (Brasília time), to choose their ticket. mayor and deputy mayor who will command their cities for the next 4 years.
  • Also up for grabs are the positions of councilor in Municipal Chambers throughout the country.
  • In all, 463,389 applications were filed with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) for the positions in dispute in the 5,569 Brazilian cities.
  • In 103 of them (which have more than 200 thousand inhabitants), there may be a dispute over second round for the Executive Branch, if no candidate reaches an absolute majority of votes today (50% of valid votes +1).

Ramagem votes in Barra da Tijuca, in Rio

Accompanied by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), deputy Alexandre Ramagem, PL candidate for Mayor of Rio, voted at a school in Barra da Tijuca, west of the capital of Rio, at around 8 am. He was optimistic about the election, and said that “it will be a big surprise in the second round”. Ramagem, however, is far from Eduardo Paes (PSD), who scored 61% in voting intentions, considering valid votes, according to a Datafolha survey released on Saturday.

Quaest in BH: Engler reaches 30% and surpasses Fuad (25%) and Tramonte (20%)

In the dispute for mayor of Belo Horizonte (MG), Bruno Engler (PL), registered 30% of the valid votes and surpassed Fuad Noman (PSD), with 25%, and Mauro Tramonte (Republicans), with 20%, shows the survey by the Quaest. Compared to the previous survey, Engler and Fuad advanced 9 and 5 percentage points, respectively. Tramonte fell 7 points, from 27% to the current 20%. In fourth place is federal deputy Duda Salabert (PDT), with 8% of voting intentions, tied with Gabriel Azevedo (MDB).

Quaest in Rio: Paes rises to 61% and remains in the lead; Ramagem goes to 29%

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), should be re-elected for his fourth term this Sunday, according to a survey by Quaest, released early this Saturday evening (5). Paes advanced 8 percentage points, going from 53% to 61% of valid votes. The current mayor continues to have a comfortable advantage over federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ), who also grew significantly, rising from 20% to 29% of the electorate’s preference in relation to the institute’s last survey.

Quaest in SP: Boulos has 29%, Nunes, 28%, and Marçal, 27% of valid votes

The Quaest survey for the city of São Paulo, released this Saturday (5), shows Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) with 29% of valid votes, Ricardo Nunes with 28% and Pablo Marçal with 27% of valid votes. In the second platoon, Tabata Amaral (PSB) has 10% of the votes, and Datena (PSDB), 4%, and Marina Helena, 2%.

Mandatory voting

Voting is mandatory in Brazil for those aged 18 or over and optional for the illiterate, those over 70 and people aged 16 and 17. According to data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), 5.5 million people declared themselves illiterate when registering to vote or making updates. Around 10 million voters are aged 70 to 79. Approximately 4.8 million are over the age of 79. Among them, 203 thousand are over 100 years old. The youngest group (16 and 17 years old) comprises 1.8 million voters. Unified voting

Just as happened in the 2022 elections, this year voting times will be unified throughout Brazil. As a result, all polling stations will operate from 8 am to 5 pm Brasília time (that is, cities in different time zones must adapt to the federal capital’s time).
