“Look beginning, middle and end”: INSS President defends review of all benefits

The president of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), Gilberto Waller Júnior, said in an interview with the newspaper S.Paulo Folhathat the municipality will undergo a process of sanitation and review of all the benefits granted.

Waller emphasized the need for a thorough analysis of the processes, noting that “we need to look beginning, middle and end.” “We are revisiting all benefits granting processes and seeking to bureaucracy in citizen service,” said the president of the INSS.

The statement arises amid a scandal involving fraud in associated discounts, which raised questions about the efficiency and safety of the institute’s practices.

Waller Júnior announced that only technicians will be appointed to coordinators, in response to the guidelines of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. “We are buying a fight with God and the world, but it’s time to make the necessary changes,” he told the newspaper.

The president of the INSS stressed that the current situation of the agency is unsustainable, since the image of the institution was compromised by scandals of corruption and mismanagement. “The INSS must be a place where the insured feels at home, not on police pages,” said Waller.

One of the critical points discussed in the interview was the payable loan of retirees. According to Waller, this modality via INSS can be discontinued due to the low financial return that the institute receives from banks.

He mentioned that, with a receipt of only R $ 117 million per year, it would be more advantageous for the institute to end this type of loan, especially in the face of the increase in associated fraud.

“The INSS is not part of this chain of loan,” he said, suggesting that the frauds are more linked to banks and associations than to the management of the institute.

Waller also commented on the need for a broader debate on associative discounts, which became a fraud breach during the pandemic. He indicated that investigations are underway and that legal measures are being taken to hold the entities involved.
