Loss of part of the lung, infection: Remember the health problems of the Pope
The removal of part of the lung was required due to three cysts. “When I recovered from anesthesia, the pain I felt was very intense. It is not that I was not worried, but I was always convinced that it would be healed,” Francisco said in an interview granted in 2019.
I never felt limitation in my activities. Even on several international trips I never had to limit or cancel any of the scheduled activities. I never felt tired or shortness of breath. As the doctors explained to me, the right lung expanded and covered the entire ipsilateral hemitorax. Papa Francisco, in 2019
Gallbladder
In 1980, Francisco was operated to remove the gallbladder. In 2014, the Pope received at Santa Marta’s residence in the Vatican, the Argentine doctor Juan Carlos Parodi, responsible for the surgery. At the time, the head of the Catholic Church thanked him for “having saved his life.”
Cataract surgery
Pope underwent cataract surgery in total confidentiality in 2019. The procedure was allegedly performed at the Pio 11 clinic in Rome, and the information was revealed by the Italian newspaper “Il Messaggero” in December 2019. The newspaper of the Italian capital did not report the date of the operation, but unofficial information states that it happened in the middle of the year, when Francisco limited his activities. The intervention was not confirmed by the Vatican.
