Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro publish Mother’s Day messages

In celebration of Mother’s Day this Sunday (10), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and senator and presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) used social media to publish tributes to women, one of the key audiences for this year’s elections.

In his post, the president remembered his mother, Dona Lindu, to whom he attributed the inspiration for his belief in a fairer Brazil, stating that he learned from her to never give up. “Before any position, before any title, I am Dona Lindu’s son. And that will always be the greatest pride of my life”, he wrote. The text also pays homage to “millions of Brazilian women who support their families with their own courage”.

In turn, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro published a video narrating a message of thanks to mothers. Bolsonaro’s text highlights maternal perseverance: “A mother may get tired. But she never gives up.” The PL pre-candidate wished a happy Mother’s Day to all Brazilian families, personalizing the tribute in the figures of his wife, Fernanda, and his mother, Rogéria Bolsonaro.

In the Real Time/Big Data survey published earlier this week, Lula has 43% of women’s votes, while Flávio is cited by 32%, in the stimulated scenario. Among men, both are tied at 36%. Data from the Superior Electoral Court in March show that female voters in Brazil make up 52.8% of the total. In absolute numbers, there are 82.8 million women and 73.9 million men registered voters.
