Lula and Trump will be together for the first time at the UN General Assembly
President Lula travels to New York today to participate in the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations. It is his first visit to the United States after Brazil suffers economic sanctions from Donald Trump’s government.
Traditionally, Brazil is the first country to speak at the opening of the general debate and the expectation is around the content of the speech and Lula, which should reverberate the pressures that Brazil has been suffering due to the judgment of those responsible for the attempted coup d’état after the 2022 elections.
There is no forecast of Lula and Trump to meet, but The Brazilian President will participate in a series of other UN meetings. Already in the second, will go to the conference on Palestine, convened by France and Saudi Arabia; On Tuesday there is a climate meeting with secretary general António Guterres and other authorities. Before returning to Brazil on Wednesday, Lula still participates in the “Defense of Democracy” meeting, which will bring together world leaders to strengthen multilateralism and to which Donald Trump was not invited.
