Lula arrives in Rome to meet Pope Leo XIV

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) arrived this Sunday, 12th, in Rome, Italy, for international commitments and a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, scheduled for this Monday, 13th, at the Vatican.

The audience with Pope Leo XIV was confirmed this Saturday, 11th, by the press service of the Holy See and by the federal government. It will be the first meeting between Lula and the new pontiff since his election to command the Catholic Church.

This will be the fourth time that Lula has met a pope since the beginning of his political career. The president had already been received by John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis at different times of government.

Lula also has a schedule at two events in the country. Participates in the opening of the World Food Forum, of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and closes the second meeting of the Council of Champions of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative launched during the G-20 Leaders’ Summit, under the Brazilian presidency.
