Lula defends harmony between the Powers and says that Brazil has a “strong economy”

In a Christmas address shown on national television, on Monday night (23), the day before the celebration, the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) He thanked the prayers for his recovery after surgery to remove a hematoma on the brain and said again that, in 2025, the federal government will begin the “harvest” of the programs it planted in the first two years of office.

In a message that lasted 3 minutes and 20 seconds, Lula made a more general statement, without presenting details about what was done in the first half of his government and what he intends for the last two years of his third term.

“Christmas is a good time to remember Christ’s teachings: compassion, fraternity, respect and love for others. My wish is that these teachings are present not only at Christmas, but every day of our lives”, said Lula at the beginning of his speech.

“I want to thank you for the prayers and messages of affection I received during the medical emergency I was recently subjected to. Thanks to this chain of solidarity, I am even firmer and stronger to continue making Brazil work”, he stated.

According to the president, “this is the time to renew our hope in a more just country”.

“I have always believed that governing means taking care of people. Take care of each and every Brazilian man and woman. With a special focus on those who need it most”, said Lula.

Harmony between Powers and democracy

The President of the Republic highlighted the need for “respect and harmony between the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary” and the “uncompromising defense of democracy”.

“Brazil today has a strong economy, which continues to grow. An efficient government, which invests where it is most important: in the quality of life of the Brazilian population”, he stated.

“We are reaping the fruits of our work, but we need to continue planting. Sow and fertilize, irrigate and care, always and always”, continued Lula. “In 2025, we will redouble our efforts for planting. And may the harvest be increasingly generous.”

Watch Lula’s speech and read the full speech:

“My friends, today I would like to talk to each and every one of you. You are at home, with your family. You who work in the field, in commerce or industry. That makes food arrive on our tables. Who works in health, in schools, in workshops. You student. You are the one who takes care of the house. You entrepreneur.

All of you who help build this great country. Christmas is a good time to remember Christ’s teachings: compassion, fraternity, respect and love for others. My wish is that these teachings are present not just at Christmas, but every day of our lives. May each of us recognize our fellow man in the other. May brother be reconciled with brother. May families be able to celebrate in communion.

I want to thank you for the prayers and messages of affection I received during the medical emergency I was recently subjected to. Thanks to this chain of solidarity, I am even firmer and stronger to continue making Brazil work.

This is the time to renew our hope. Hope in a fairer country. A Brazil without hunger, where every woman and man has decent work and time to watch their children grow. May every mother and father have the happiness of knowing that their children are well cared for, healthy and protected.

I have always believed that governing means taking care of people. Take care of each and every Brazilian man and woman. With a special focus on those who need it most. The basis of everything we do is dialogue and joint work between the federal government and society, state governments and city halls. It is respect and harmony between the Executive, the Legislative and the Judiciary. It is the uncompromising defense of democracy.

We still have enormous challenges ahead. But Brazil today has a strong economy, which continues to grow. An efficient government, which invests where it is most important: in the quality of life of the Brazilian population.

We have done a lot, and we still have a lot to do. We are reaping the fruits of our work, but we must continue planting. Sow and fertilize, irrigate and care, over and over again. In 2025, we will redouble our efforts for planting. And may the harvest be increasingly generous.

Merry Christmas and a 2025 full of prosperity for the large Brazilian family.“

Second speech in 4 days

This was Lula’s second statement in just four days. Last Friday (20), the president recorded a video alongside the future commander of the Central Bank (BC), Gabriel Galípolo, and ministers Fernando Haddad (Finance), Simone Tebet (Planning and Budget) and Rui Costa (Casa Civil), in which he assured that he will not interfere with the monetary authority.

Galípolo, current director of Monetary Policy at the BC, was appointed by Lula to succeed the current president of the authority, Roberto Campos Neto, with whom the PT member had a series of public disagreements in his first two years in office. Campos Neto will be in charge of the BC until December 31st. Galípolo takes over on January 1st.

Also on Friday, Lula brought together his government’s ministers for a celebratory lunch at Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the Presidency of the Republic.

The event was attended by 38 government ministers and took place in a relaxed tone. Lula told ministers that it is necessary to pacify the relationship with the financial market in 2025.

In recent days, tension has grown in the market due to pessimism regarding the federal government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and the adjustment of public accounts. The approval of the fiscal package by the National Congress, concluded last week, and the video alongside Galípolo contributed to the dollar cooling in the last trading session of last week.

However, this Monday, the American currency rose 1.87%, quoted at R$ 6.18, influenced by the external scenario.
