Lula: I haven’t spoken to Trump yet, but I think we can resolve the Russia-Ukraine war
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated this Monday (27) that he believes it is possible to seek a negotiated solution to the war between Russia and Ukraine, with the support of the United States.
At a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Lula said that he has not yet discussed the issue directly with American President Donald Trump, but demonstrated confidence that the relationship between the two countries can contribute to diplomatic progress.
“I haven’t spoken to Trump yet about the war, but I think we can resolve it. It’s been three years of conflict. I think we’re getting to the point of ending it,” he declared.

Furthermore, Lula criticized the imbalance between military spending and global efforts against hunger, amid the continuation of the war. “The world has already spent 2 trillion and 700 billion dollars on weapons and only 10% of that on ending hunger. That’s what saddens me.”
According to the president, Brazil’s priority continues to be the defense of peace and international cooperation. “We don’t need more wars. We need dialogue and political courage to stop killing innocent people”, he added.
