Lula is a natural candidate and favorite presidency in 2026, says Alckmin

The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, said that the “natural candidate” to the presidency in 2026 is the current chief executive, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Asked if it should repeat the plate with the petista next year, Alckmin said it is still early for a decision, but pointed out to be happy at the head of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC).
“The natural candidate for the presidency of the Republic is President Lula. The natural candidate for mayor in reelection is the mayor; the governor is the governor, when he can; the president, is the president,” Alckmin said in an interview with Radio Itatiaia on Wednesday, 23, citing that Lula also emerges as a favorite candidate in 2026.

He added: “Regarding the plate (with Lula in 2026), it is early still, but I mean that I am very happy doing what I am doing. The president, besides the vice presidency, gave me the opportunity of MDIC, I like to work and our country is fascinating.”

In the interview, Alckmin said he did not see “concern” with a possible reversal of the ineligibility of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
“He was the President of the Republic, was in office spent 3% of GDP to reelect and lost the election, imagine outside the government,” said the vice president.
