Lula must repeat exams after domestic accident and head injury
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), on medical advice, will not travel to the Brics Summit in Kazan and will have to undergo further tests to make sure there is no bleeding or edema in the region behind the skull, injured after slipping and falling in the bathroom of Palácio do Planalto last Saturday (19).
According to a newspaper report The GlobeLula was at the Palácio do Alvorada with only the first lady Janja da Silva when the fall occurred.
The accident occurred shortly after Lula returned from São Paulo to Brasília. The president went to the capital of São Paulo to participate in campaign activities alongside Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), a plan that ended up being canceled because of the rain. The PT member, however, recorded a video alongside the candidate.
In an interview with GlobonewsRoberto Kalil Filho, a doctor treating Lula, said that the president is fine, but suffered a small hemorrhage in the brain and will have to undergo further tests throughout the week to monitor the extent of the bleeding.
When there is increased bleeding, one of the risks is that it becomes a clot capable of compressing the brain. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the patient under observation. “It’s protocol,” commented Kalil. During the reevaluation on Sunday, doctors noticed that the president’s bleeding had not progressed.
According to the Presidency’s Communication Secretariat (Secom), Lula will have government agendas this week at Palácio do Planalto and will participate in the Brics Summit, which will take place in the Russian city of Kazan, via videoconference.
Roberto Kalil told Globe that the president is free to work, but will not be able to do physical activity.
