Lula sanctions law with SUS measures to support women who lose the baby

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sanctioned the law that creates the National Policy of Humanization of Maternal and Parental Mourning. It provides SUS actions to welcome women and family members who lost babies during pregnancy, childbirth or in the neonatal period.
What happened
The law states that Union, states and municipalities must guarantee psychological, social and medical support to mourned fathers and mothers. Measures include home visits, separation of hospital wings and follow -up on future pregnancies. Health and private health services should also adopt protocols to welcome families and guarantee the right to farewell.
Among the expected measures are the right to name stillbonds, the possibility of registering fingerprints and plantar impressions and the guarantee of farewell, if desired by the family. It will also be possible to bury or cremate the stillbirth, provided that the decision of the parents respected.
