Lula says that Bolsonaro deserves to be condemned, but that he makes no judgment about punishment
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) repeated in an interview with SBT News published this Monday, 15th, which will make the decision on sanctioning or vetoing the Dosimetry PL when the text reaches the Presidency’s office. “When I get to my table, I will be sitting at my table with God, and I will make the decision,” he said.
The president, however, once again said that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) should be condemned. The PT member said he makes no judgment about the number of years he should serve in prison.
The bill currently being processed in Congress seeks to reduce the former president’s sentence imposed by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which is 27 years and three months in prison. There are calculations that estimate that the sentence would fall to two years and four months considering the provisions of the project.
Senator calls Dosimetry PL a “Christmas gift for criminal factions”
Contarato says that the project to reduce sentences for January 8 opens dangerous loopholes and could benefit violent crimes
“As it is, it won’t pass”, says president of the Senate’s CCJ on the Dosimetry project
Otto Alencar (PSD-BA) stated that the current text faces resistance even among Bolsonaro’s allies and can be changed; vote may be postponed until 2026 due to requests for views
“I just think that the citizen who tried to carry out a coup in this country, who tried to lie all the time in his governance, who is responsible for the death of half of the people who died from Covid due to his irresponsibility and in this attempted coup, trying to involve the Armed Forces, deserves to be condemned”, stated Lula.
Still without making it clear whether he will veto the text that would benefit Bolsonaro, Lula told SBT News only that he will do his best for “democracy and autonomy between the Powers”. The opinion of the Dosimetry PL of the rapporteur in the Senate, Esperidião Amin, should be presented this Wednesday, 17th, at the Constitution and Justice Committee of the House.
This Monday, the 15th, the rapporteur of the Dosimetry PL in the Senate, Espiridião Amin (PP-SC) stated that, as it stands, the text will not pass the House. He stated that he is studying with other senators how to fill holes in the project that could benefit criminals other than scammers and should present a report by Wednesday.
