Lula: We are proposing a 2% tax on the very rich
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said that the Brazilian government is proposing a 2% tax on the “very rich” in the G20, which brings together countries with the largest economies in the world. The G20 leaders’ summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro on November 18th and 19th.
“If this taxation happens, we can raise 250 to 300 billion dollars, enough money to fight poverty,” Lula told the French TV channel TF1.
“We have 3 thousand people in the world who have a fortune of 15 trillion dollars. It is not possible that we do not have the competence to make these people pay tribute so that we can raise money to end hunger and the ills that affect humanity today”, declared the president.
