Lula will visit Cristina Kirchner in Argentina if she is authorized

If he receives Argentina’s court authorization, President Lula will use the Mercosur summit next week to visit former President Cristina Kirchner.

Argentina was convicted of overpriced contracts in public works and bid fraud in the province of Santa Cruz during its presidency. In addition to the sentence of six years in prison, she also had political rights revoked. Cristina says she is innocent and a victim of judicial persecution, and fulfills the sentence in house arrest.

Lula considers that, by reciprocity, he needs to pay a visit to the former Argentine compartmentalman. The president evaluates that international solidarity in the case of his arrest in Brazil was fundamental in the process.
