Macron says he will meet with parties on Tuesday after prime minister’s fall
There is pressure to appoint a new prime minister. Michel Barnier faced difficulties in approving the 2025 budget, leading to his downfall and increasing pressure on Macron.
Left-wing parties rallied with Macron. Socialists, ecologists and communists, allies in the New Popular Front coalition, agreed to participate in the consultations on the future government.
Forming a new government is complex. A government that includes the left (except the LFI), Macron’s center-right alliance and The Republicans could achieve an absolute majority, but faces challenges due to political differences and the focus on the 2027 presidential elections.
Presidency talks about ‘possible government’. “At the end of the consultations held since Friday, the president invited (…) all political parties that declared themselves willing to commit to forming a government of general interest or to making such a government possible”, announced the presidency.
