Magnitude 7 earthquake hits California and triggers tsunami warning
A magnitude 7 earthquake struck Northern California this Thursday morning (5).
What happened?
The tremors triggered immediate tsunami warnings along the coast. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, emergency notifications were sent to the cell phones of users in the affected areas with instructions to immediately move to higher elevations: “A series of powerful waves and strong currents could impact coasts near you. You are in danger .Stay away from coastal waters,” the message said.
The strong tremor was recorded at a depth of 10 km. The epicenter was about 60 miles west-southwest of Ferndale, according to the United States Geological Survey.
