March 8 March in Argentina becomes tide against Milei
In Argentina, feminist and human rights movements denounce that the country is experiencing the largest decline in gender rights in the last ten years.
The most emblematic case was the closure of the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity, in 2024, one of the initiatives of the Milei government, to cut public spending. The government also closed the departments dedicated to the gender policies of other ministries, leaving Argentina orphan of an organism specialized in public policies for women’s rights.
Isabela (fictitious name) is 19 and marched for the first time on this 8th. “I had never come to a demonstration of the 8th and this year I am very convinced that this is where I should be. I suffered childhood violence and I am here to defend the rights of girls and women that this government wants to end,” he said.
In microphones, protesters asked for general strike and said the abortion law will be defended to the end. “We are resistance. We will defend the law of abortion: free and public and education to all and all,” they said. “We are not going back to the 15th century, Malei”, “Below all conservatives and fascists in Latin America,” they said, citing names such as former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

The mood was celebrated, with protests and shouts that called Milei dictator and remembered the crimes of femicide in Argentina, citing data from the People’s Defender, which pointed out that every 30 hours there is a femicide in the country.
