National Guard forces formed a human barricade to keep people out of the building, and at the end of Monday, police began to disperse the crowd using gas and arrested some protesters.

At dusk, police had clashes with protesters who spread the city’s Little Tokyo section. While people watched from the courtyards of the apartments above the street level and the tourists huddled in the hotels, a large contingent of Los Angeles police officers and sheriff delegates fired shots that echoed through the side streets along with tear gas.

The protests spread to Orange’s neighboring county on Monday night after immigration beats in the area, with protesters gathered at the Santa Ana federal building, according to local authorities and reports.

Manifestations also emerged in at least nine other US cities on Monday, including New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco, according to local news.

In Austin, Texas, police fired non -lethal ammunition and detained several people when confronting a crowd of hundreds of protesters.

(Additional reports by Sandy Hooper, Joel Angel Juarez, Kanishka Singh, Ismail Shakil, Daina Chiacu, Steve Holland, Nandita Bose, Lizbeth Díaz, Noah Torres, Alexia Garamfalvi and Dietrich Knauth; Dan Trotta, Andy Sullivan and Joseph Ax;
