Mauro Vieira and Marco Rubio meet for about 1 hour at the White House
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, arrived at around 4:25 pm this Thursday, 16th, at the Brazilian residence in Washington, after having participated in the meeting with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, at the White House, in the afternoon. He entered without speaking to the press.
According to interlocutors, the meeting was divided into two parts, lasting around an hour in total.
At first, the meeting was private between Vieira and Rubio. It is expected that the Brazilian Ambassador in Washington, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, will also have participated in this meeting. This first part would have lasted around 15 minutes, according to interlocutors.

Afterwards, an expanded meeting took place. On the Brazilian side, ambassadors Maurício Lyrio, Secretary of Climate, Energy and Environment, Philip Gough, Secretary of Economic and Financial Affairs, and Joel Sampaio, Head of the Special Advisory for Social Communication, participated.
On the US side, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer would have participated in the second part of the expanded conversation. This meeting would have lasted around 50 minutes, according to Brazilian government sources.
The meeting between Vieira and Rubio was the first between them since the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the president of the United States, Donald Trump, had a telephone conversation about the countries’ relationship.
