Mayor of Newark is arrested at the US Immigrant Detention Center

(Reuters) – Ras Baraka, New Jersey’s Democratic Mayor, who is running for state governor, was arrested on Friday after refusing to leave a Federal Immigration Detention Center, the main federal prosecutor in New Jersey said in a statement published in X.
Alina Habba, a former lawyer for President Donald Trump, who is acting as an interim federal prosecutor, said Baraka “has committed invasion of ownership and ignored several warnings” to leave a detention center run by the US immigration and customs service in Newark.
A spokesman for the internal security department said two congressional democratic members were also on the premises. The spokesman accused them of invading the installation when a bus of detainees arrived.
