Mayor re-elected in Espírito Santo suffers attempted murder; police investigate

The re-elected mayor of the municipality of Afonso Cláudio (ES), a city 142 kilometers away from Vitória, in Espírito Santo, Luciano Pimenta (PP) was the victim of an attempted murder on Tuesday night (22). The mayor was not hit and is doing well.

Pimenta was in the rural area of ​​the city and was returning home around 9pm when he was surprised by two men on a motorcycle, who shot at the car he was driving. The mayor, who was armed, retaliated. The attackers fled.

The State Scientific Police said that teams carried out an examination on the mayor’s car, which had three gunshot wounds on the front windshield and two on the rear window, and other complementary examinations are underway on an “urgent basis”.

The Civil Police reported that “the measures and investigations related to the attempted murder are underway to identify and hold the perpetrators of the crime responsible.”

Afonso Cláudio city hall did not comment on the matter. On social media, Pimenta thanked the messages of support. “Thank you to everyone who is forwarding messages of support! Thank God I’m fine, thank you very much!”, he published.

The governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande (PSB), used social media to lament the case and say that “Civil and scientific police, with the monitoring of the Public Security Secretariat, immediately began investigating the facts so that those responsible can be identified and punished severely.”

Pimenta was re-elected to the position with 8,706 votes (46.77% of valid votes), surpassing Márcio CDA (Podemos), Baé (Avante), Luciano Mageski (PSOL) and João Costela (DC).
