Mining foresees an impact of up to $ 1 billion per year with Trump tariffs
The mining sector estimates that the impact of 50% fare that can be charged from US imported Brazilian products from 1 August can reach $ 1 billion per year. The analysis is from IBRAM (Brazilian Institute of Mining), which expressed concern about the possibility of Brazil retaliating the United States, which could have a ripple effect throughout the trade balance.
What happened
$ 1 billion more per year. The estimate made by the entity, which has Raul Jungmann as CEO, is due to the possible taxation of heavy equipment, such as trucks and excavators, essential for the operation of the sector. The value would further compromise the competitiveness of national mining.
Mining accounted for 47% of all Brazilian exports last year. According to the entity, the balance was US $ 34.95 billion. The main Brazilian products exported to the US, such as ornamental stones, iron ore, semimanified gold and niobium, are the most affected by new tariffs. By 2024, Brazil exported about 4 million tons of ores to the US, representing approximately $ 1.5 billion in transactions.
