The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, called the 50% rate announced by the president of the United States Donald Trump to Brazil “indecent action”, and says he talked to entities that represent the most affected sectors to discuss measures that can expand markets and reduce commercial barriers.

What happened

“Given the indecent action of the US government (…), we are already acting proactively,” said Carlos Fávaro.. According to a statement, released this afternoon, calls were made to entities representing the orange juice, beef and coffee sector, to discuss actions if the fare is confirmed from 1 August.

Expansion of markets and breach of commercial barriers. Among the measures commented by the minister, the idea is to allow an expansion of markets already served and expand negotiations with the Middle East, southern Asia and what he called “global south.” “(These markets) can be an alternative to Brazilian exports,” he said. Fávaro also said that diplomatic actions “are being taken in reciprocity”.
