Ministry of Transport opens investigation into bridge collapse between MA and TO
The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit), linked to the Ministry of Transport, opened an investigation this Tuesday (24) to determine the causes and responsibilities for the collapse of the Juscelino Kubitschek bridge. The structure, which was part of BR-226 and connected the states of Tocantins and Maranhão, collapsed last Sunday (22).
The investigation work will begin on Thursday (26), when, according to the general director of Dnit, Fabrício Galvão, “the entire commission will travel to the site of the collapse and begin collecting the necessary documents for investigations.”
Government promises to release R$100 million to rebuild bridge that collapsed
On Sunday (22), the central span of the bridge, 533 meters long, gave way, collapsing at least ten vehicles, including four trucks, three passenger vehicles and three motorcycles.
The investigation committee is authorized to investigate facts, request documents from bodies at any administrative level and analyze them together with other evidence obtained during the investigation.
Technical tests are also planned, such as tests and field visits, to identify the possible causes that led to the collapse and evaluate indicators of responsibility. The deadline for completing the work is 120 days.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the investigation was determined by minister Renan Filho (MDB). The ministry also informed that it is planned, this Tuesday, to publish the emergency decree that will allocate more than R$100 million for the construction of a new bridge.
