Moraes denies a hurry in the lawsuit against Bolsonaro: “almost two years”
Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) denied on Thursday (14) that he accelerated the processing of criminal action on the attempted coup d’état, in which former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is defendant.
According to him, each process has its own characteristics, and the progress depends on the stages led by the Federal Police (PF) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
The statement was given during a meeting with digital influencers at the Supreme Court, when Moraes responded to a comparison made by humorist Mizael Silva between the case of Bolsonaro and investigations into deviations at the National Institute of Social Security (INSS).

“Between investigation, denunciation and process, we will turn almost two years old. The INSS issue is not six months old. Comparing various things is very complicated. One thing is totally different from the other,” said the minister.
Moraes stressed that there is no preference or political direction and that the time of processing varies according to the evidence and work of the responsible institutions.
“There is no predilection here to one side or the other. It depends on the procedure, depends on the rapporteur, depends on the evidence. Sometimes the Attorney General denounces after a year of investigation, sometimes a month, when the investigation has come ready,” he said.
He also recalled that, as a rapporteur of the case, he acts in conjunction with other ministers of the First Class of the Supreme Court, and that the conduct of the investigation is up to the PF, while the accusation is made by PGR.
Timeline
The survey that gave rise to the coup plot process was opened in December 2023. In November 2024, the PF indicated Bolsonaro and 36 people for involvement in the attempted coup. The PGR filed a complaint in February 2025, accepted by the first class the following month.
The criminal action is in the final phase, and the trial is scheduled for September this year.
