Moraes responds to sanctions in the US and reaffirms sovereignty: “We stop being a colony”
Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) reaffirmed on Wednesday (27) the sovereignty of Brazil in response to the bill approved by a committee of the United States Congress, which may impose sanctions against its entry into the country.
At the opening of the Supreme Court session, Moraes cited the 73th anniversary of the inaugural meeting of the UN and highlighted Brazil’s commitment to democracy and human rights.
“In these 73 years of inauguration of the UN’s official headquarters, it is important that we all reaffirm our commitments to the defense of democracy, human rights, equality between nations and our integral oath of defense of the Brazilian Constitution and the sovereignty of Brazil, the independence of the judiciary and the citizenship of all Brazilians, as we are no longer cologne in 7/9/1822 and with courage we are built with courage Independent and getting better republic, ”said the minister about US attacks.

The project approved by the US Representative Chamber of Representatives Commission proposes to block the entry of foreign authorities accused of censoring US citizens. If you advance, the text will still need to be approved by the House Plenary, the Senate and sanctioned by the White House.
The initiative gained strength after lobby led by Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and Paulo Figueiredo, grandson of former dictator João Figueiredo (1979-1985). Both acted to press republican parliamentarians to boost the proposal.
Diplomatic tension and reaction of the Brazilian government
The pressure against Moraes was not limited to the US Congress. The US State Department directly criticized its decisions, especially the suspension of Bolsonarist accounts and the blockade of platforms such as X (former Twitter) and Rumble for breach of court orders.
“Respect for sovereignty is a two -way road with all US partners, including Brazil,” the agency said. “Blocking access to information and imposing fines on US companies for refusing to censor people in the US is incompatible with democratic values,” he said in a statement.
The Lula (PT) government reacted to the statements and accused the US of “distorting the facts.” In a statement, Itamaraty stressed that it will not accept foreign interference in decisions of the Brazilian judiciary and defended the performance of the Supreme Court.
The impasse raises the diplomatic tension between countries and occurs amid investigations into the attempted coup d’état in Brazil, a process conducted by Moraes and involving allies of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
