Moraes votes to condemn a woman who chipped “lost, Mané” in the STF for 14 years in prison
Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) voted to condemn Débora Rodrigues dos Santos to 14 years in prison for crimes committed during the attacks of January 8, 2023. Deborah became known for pecking the phrase “lost, Mané” in the statue of Justice, located in front of the STF headquarters, during the invasions of the three powers.
Moraes voted for Deborah’s conviction for the five crimes pointed out by the Attorney General’s Office in the complaint to the Supreme Court, namely:
- Violent abolition of the democratic rule of law
- Coup
- Qualified damage
- DECLARED OF HERITAGE
- Armed criminal association

According to the minister, the investigations show that Deborah consciously combined with the group that had planned the coup and chose to actively participate in criminal acts. She also confirmed the accusations during her interrogation.
In addition to the prison sentence, which should be served in a closed regime, Moraes suggested that Deborah was ordered to join jointly and will pay the damage caused by the depredation in the Three Powers Square, which are estimated at $ 30 million. The Pichada statue, entitled “The Justice”, is one of the main works of Minas Gerais artist Alfredo Ceschiatti, and was valued by the STF between $ 2 million and $ 3 million.
Débora Rodrigues has been preemptively arrested since March 2023, after being captured during one of the stages of Operation Lesa Fatherland, which investigated those involved in the attacks on STF, Congress and Planalto Palace buildings.
Deborah’s case is being analyzed at the Virtual Plenary of the Supreme Court and will be voted by the ministers of the First Class until March 28. If Moraes’s position is maintained, she will join the other scammers already convicted of the acts of 8 January.
The phrase stained by her, “Lost, Mané,” refer to a speech by STF President Luís Roberto Barroso, who was approached by a Bolsonarist protester in November 2022 during a trip to New York. The phrase, in an irony tone, was used by Barroso to respond to the protester.
Although the case has generated support among pockets, who argue that Deborah should be released for not committing a serious crime and just using “a red lipstick”, the episode continues to generate great controversy. Jair Bolsonaro, Tarcisio de Freitas and Flávio Bolsonaro recently quoted the case in a protest in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, last Sunday (16).
