Most are little or not at all informed about possible coup investigations, says Ipec
The majority (65%) of Brazilians are “little” or “not at all informed” about the investigations by the Federal Police (PF) into the coup attempt in 2022, according to a national survey carried out by Ipec between the 5th and 10th of December with 2 thousand people. The research interviews were carried out before the arrest of General Braga Netto on Saturday (14). The former Bolsonaro government minister was accused of interfering in the investigation.
According to the survey reported in the Lauro Jardim column of the newspaper O Globo this Sunday (15), Brazilians are divided on whether or not former president Jair Bolsonaro participated in planning a coup (43%) or whether he is being “persecuted politically” (42%).
Despite doubts and misinformation, 80% understand that those involved “should be tried and punished according to the law”.

Ipec also asked about respondents’ confidence in the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) involving politicians. Only 23% said they believe that STF ministers are impartial and do not favor politicians.
