One month after the announcement, Caiado has not yet joined and wants the PSD to anticipate its choice
The governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado, has not yet made his affiliation with the PSD official. More than a month after announcing, alongside Gilberto Kassab (PSD), that he would change parties, a document from the Electoral Court obtained by Estadão shows that he is still registered as a member of União Brasil.
Caiado was contacted by message and through the press office, but, until the publication of this text, he had not responded to the report’s contacts, as had the PSD.

In an interview with the website The Popularfrom Goiás, the governor stated that everything is ok to join the PSD, but that he has not yet made the affiliation official because he intends to do so at a party event in Goiás. He did not give details about the ceremony
“It doesn’t depend on anything else. It’s already agreed, with the word given. It’s an event that I’m also going to do in my state. It won’t simply be a signing, it will be an event”, he said on Tuesday night, 3.
Caiado also confirmed that he asked Kassab for the decision on who will be the PSD candidate to be made by April 3, the deadline for a candidate to join the party for which they will contest the election.
The president of the PSD, until now, has given statements that the decision will be taken by April 15th. In addition to Caiado, the governors of Paraná, Ratinho Júnior (PSD), and Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSD), are in the running.
“Yes, I requested (the advance). I think it is fundamental. There is no reason for us to wait so long. We have to start walking Brazil. As of the 31st, I am no longer governor of the State and I have to walk the country”, added Caiado to the Goiás newspaper.
At a lunch with bankers this Wednesday, Ratinho Jr. said that the idea is that “by the end of March, beginning of April this will already be defined”.
Although Caiado declares that everything is agreed with the PSD, the political operator who informed Estadão that the affiliation was not official with the Electoral Court presented another justification.
According to him, Caiado wants to have room for maneuver to join another party that is willing to launch him as a candidate if he is not chosen by the PSD. Before the announcement that he would join Kassab’s party, he held conversations with Solidariedade and Podemos.
Electoral legislation determines that all candidates must be affiliated with the parties for which they will contest the election up to six months before the first round. In this year’s election, the deadline is April 3. If Kassab’s calendar is maintained, this would mean that Caiado, Ratinho and Leite would no longer be able to change captions if they do not like the choice made by the PSD.
Estadão asked Caiado if there is a possibility of him going for a third party in the coming weeks. He didn’t respond. In interviews after the announcement that he would join the PSD, he declared that he would respect the party’s decision even if he were not chosen.
Caiado, Leite and Ratinho will be together with Kassab on a tour of cities in São Paulo starting next Friday, the 6th. Until Monday, the 9th, the four will participate in political affiliations with the PSD and debates on the party’s proposals for Brazil in São Paulo, Santos, Itapevi, Presidente Prudente and Sorocaba.
