Outraged, ambassador cries at the UN due to international silence on Gaza
In tears and visibly indignant, he repeated what was on that blackboard. “Whoever stays until the end will tell the story. We did what we could. Remember us. Remember us”, he insisted, knocking on the table.
For the diplomat, the world owes more than just memories. “Nothing can explain that, for 15 months, Palestinians in Gaza had to live through hell and were abandoned to their fate,” he said.
Over the months, the WHO has warned, in vain, about attacks against hospitals and doctors. The Israeli government claims that it is Hamas members who have started to use medical facilities to hide.
The ambassador, however, insisted on denouncing the lack of international reaction. He told how another doctor Adnan Al Bursh, also dead, wrote: “We will die standing up and not kneel. All that is left in the valley are its stones, and we are its stones,” he continued.
“We have a duty to save lives. This Council has an obligation to save lives”, asked the diplomat, in front of a Security Council that was shaken in its credibility due to its inability to respond to the crisis.
“The Palestinian doctors and medical staff took this mission seriously, even at the risk of their lives. They did not abandon the victims. Do not abandon them. End Israeli impunity. End the genocide,” he insisted.
