Palestinian bodies were not returned identified. Although there is evidence that DNA tests were carried out, the bodies returned were only numbered and needed to be identified by the families. Israel also did not provide a list of names of those killed.

Photos and previous reports indicate that torture is common in Sde Teiman. Last year, the Guardian showed that inmates were kept in cages, blindfolded and handcuffed, chained to hospital beds and forced to wear diapers.

Detention center is part of a military base in the Negev desert. Last year, the Israeli government began an investigation into the deaths of 36 people who were imprisoned in Sde Teiman.

Swap of bodies is part of ceasefire

To date, Israel has returned 150 Palestinian bodies. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported signs of torture from the beginning of receiving the remains.

Hamas returned 14 bodies to Israel. Of these, 12 had their identity confirmed, one was not an Israeli hostage and the other, returned today, is still awaiting identification.
