Doctors said Francisco had two “very critical” episodes, with risk of death. However, Pontiff did not need to be intubated. The last press conference of the Pope was on February 21.
Pope will make the first appearance after 36 days. The idea is that he greet and bless the faithful and followers at the hospital door shortly after 12 noon tomorrow. According to the Vatican, the Angelus text will be shared as it has been in recent weeks since Francis was hospitalized. If this is confirmed, it will be the first time the Pope will appear to the public since February 14. Since then, only his audio has been released.
Francisco will have to revive to speak and go through physical therapy. The information was confirmed yesterday by Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, head of the Vatican Doctrinal Office. He said rehab is necessary due to the use of extended oxygeniotherapy and said the Pope does not intend to retire, and that he is “again being what he was before.” Today, doctors said it was necessary time for their voice to return to normal.
Hospitalized for over a month
Pontiff has been hospitalized since February 14 to treat persistent bronchitis. Francisco had polymicrobial infection of the airways and bilateral pneumonia. The picture caused crises in the pontiff, which needed mechanical ventilation. The Pope also had a light renal failure, controlled with treatment.
