Pedro Lucas Fernandes is confirmed as a new Minister of Communications
The Planalto Palace announced on Thursday (10) the appointment of federal deputy Pedro Lucas Fernandes (União Brasil-MA) as the new Minister of Communications.
The parliamentarian, who is the leader of União Brasil in the House of Representatives, was chosen to replace Juscelino Filho, who resigned after being reported to the court with a scheme of deviation of resources from parliamentary amendments.
The confirmation of the nomination occurred after a meeting between Pedro Lucas and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) at the Dawn Palace.

The Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann, confirmed the choice and stressed that the deputy asked for time until after Easter to officially take office, in order to resolve personal and mandate issues.
“The Union presented the name of Pedro Lucas, and the president accepted,” said Gleisi.
Pedro Lucas, who is in his second term as a federal deputy, does not have a close relationship with Lula, but maintains a good connection with his party president Antonio Rueda, and Senate President Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AC).
Graduated in Business Administration, Pedro Lucas comes from a family of Maranhão politicians and has held positions such as the presidency of the Metropolitan Executive Agency during the government of Flávio Dino in Maranhão.
He was reelected in 2022 as the second most voted deputy in Maranhão, with 159,786 votes.
