Petrobras obtains license from Ibama to drill well in the Foz do Amazonas Basin

Petrobras (PETR3;PETR4) reported having received today (20) the operating license from Ibama for drilling an exploratory well in block FZA-M-059, located in deep waters off Amapá, 500 km from the mouth of the Amazon River and 175 km from the coast, on the Brazilian Equatorial Margin.

The rig is located at the well location and drilling is expected to begin immediately, with an estimated duration of five months.

The company seeks to obtain more geological information and assess whether there is oil and gas in the area on an economic scale and there is no oil production at this stage.

Petrobras (PETR4) reduces the price of gasoline for distributors by R$0.14, or 4.9%

With the announced adjustment, this is the second reduction in gasoline prices in 2025, said the company

“We will operate on the Equatorial Margin with safety, responsibility and technical quality. We hope to obtain excellent results in this research and prove the existence of oil in the Brazilian portion of this new global energy frontier”, said Magda Chambriard, president of Petrobras, in a statement.

Petrobras reported having met all the requirements established by Ibama, fully complying with the environmental licensing process. As the last stage of assessment, the company carried out, in August, an on-site simulation, called Pre-Operational Assessment (APO), through which Ibama proved Petrobras’ capacity and the effectiveness of the emergency response plan.

The company remains committed to the development of the Brazilian Equatorial Margin, recognizing the importance of new frontiers to ensure the country’s energy security and the resources necessary for a fair energy transition.
