The Federal Police launched on Wednesday (3) an operation that investigates an alleged scheme of fraud in bidding, embezzlement of public resources and money laundering related to the construction of the Municipal General Hospital of Macapá, Amapá. One of the targets of the investigation is the mayor of the capital, Antonio Paulo de Oliveira Furlan (MDB), as determined by the TV Globo.
13 search and seizure warrants were fulfilled in the cities of Macapá (AP) and Belém (PA). During the demarches, a person was caught in the act after trying to hide a cell phone. According to the station, it is one of the entrepreneurs involved in the scheme.

Among the calculated elements, there are suspicions that part of the public resources for the project was diverted through the Municipal Health Secretariat of Macapá. One of the investigated would have made withdrawals in kind that total $ 9 million.
The operation takes place at a time of political wear and tear for Mayor Furlan, who last month starred in a confusion during a visit to the hospital’s works. In a widely released video, he appears grabbing the neck of a journalist who questioned him about the delay in the delivery of the project.
The targets of the investigation may be responsible for crimes such as passive and active corruption, embezzlement, money laundering and bid fraud. The PF will continue to analyze the seized material to deepen the bonds between the entrepreneurs and the public managers involved.
