PGR recommends that STF reject Bolsonaro’s request to recover passport
The Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), Paulo Gonet, recommended this Wednesday (15) that the Federal Supreme Court (STF) reject a request from Jair Bolsonaro for him to recover his passport.
According to the PGR, there is no public interest in Bolsonaro’s trip, as the former president “does not perform a role that confers the status of official representation of Brazil to his presence at the official ceremony in the United States”.
Furthermore, Gonet stated that the objective of withholding the passport is to prevent Bolsonaro from leaving the country and, therefore, “caution is based, therefore, on grounds of public order, with the aim of preserving substantial public interest, in the context of investigations criminal offenses from which it resulted.”

The former president had requested the return of the document to travel to Donald Trump’s inauguration as president of the United States, on Monday (20).
This Tuesday (14), STF minister Alexandre de Moraes sent the PGR the information presented by Bolsonaro’s defense regarding Trump’s invitation.
Case rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes will now decide whether to authorize Bolsonaro’s trip to the United States between January 17th and 22nd, as requested by the former president’s defense.
