Possible torrential rain today increases alert in Texas; More than 80 died
At least 82 people died. Of the total victims, at least 28 are children. Kerr County was the most affected, with 68 dead, according to the Sheriff Larry Lethia.
At least 41 people are missing. The total of disappearances, however, may be much higher, said Texas governor, Greg Abbott. Singlers are used by rescue teams. Over time, however, the chance to find someone alive decreases.
” Catastrophe that has not been seen for 100 years ”
President Donald Trump has plans to visit the place on Friday. “It’s a catastrophe like it hasn’t seen it for 100 years, and it’s simply atrocious what’s going on,” Donald Trump told New Jersey journalists before boarding his plane back to Washington.
He announced yesterday that he signed a disaster statement for Kerr County. “These families are facing an unimaginable tragedy, with many lost lives and many still missing,” he wrote on the social network Truth Social. The Republican also reiterated that the federal government is working with state and local authorities to deal with disaster rescues and consequences.
The Republican also denied any link between budget cuts in national weather services and the number of victims. “I don’t believe it,” he said, answering a question about the need to reject some of the staff dismissed by the cuts.
