Project wants to use Reborn babies to obtain privileges in queues and service
The House of Representatives received on Thursday (15) a bill that proposes the application of fines for people who use Reborn babies-hyper-realistic dolls-to obtain benefits such as preferred care, priority in queues, discounts and other rights reserved for children and their guardians. The proposal is from the federal deputy Zacharias Kalil (União-GO).
The text of the project defines that the penalty can vary between five and twenty minimum wages (from R $ 7,590 to R $ 30,360), depending on the severity of the infraction, the gains obtained with the practice, the economic condition of the offender and the recurrence. The amounts collected with the fines will be destined to the municipal, state, district and national funds for the rights of children and adolescents.

For the author of the proposal, the use of Reborn babies to access real children’s privileges is a conduct that “violates the objective good faith that should govern social and consumer relations” and can “overload public services, notably health units”, delaying the care of children who really need urgent care.
In addition to Kalil’s project, two other texts were filed in the House on Thursday. One proposes to prohibit medical attention to Reborn dolls in public and private institutions, while the other suggests criteria for the psychosocial reception of people who develop intense affective bonds with these dolls.
In parallel, the Rio de Janeiro City Council approved a project that creates “Reborn Stork Day”, to honor artisans who make these dolls. The measure also generated repercussions on networks, with many users questioning the sense of institutionalizing the practice.
