Putin suggests missile ‘duel’ with the US: what is the war power of the countries?

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested a “duel” with the United States to show the power of the new Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile which, according to him, could defeat any American country’s anti-missile defense system. “We are ready for such an experiment,” he said this Thursday (18).

What is the firepower of the countries?

USA is the greatest power. According to Global Firepower 2024, which classified the military strength of 145 countries, the country leads the ranking of the greatest global powers. The classification is based on each nation’s potential to wage war on land, sea and air. Aspects such as labor, equipment, natural resources, finances and geography are considered.

Russia has the second largest military strength. The country appears right after the USA and is followed by China, another great world power. The Russians have a nuclear arsenal inherited from the Cold War, a political and ideological conflict between the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) and the USA after the Second World War.
