Re-elected for the 4th term, Mayor Eduardo Paes has a degree in Rio de Janeiro
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD)and the vice mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere (PSD)were graduated, this Wednesday (18), together with the 51 councilors elected or re-elected for the next legislature.
The ceremony, at Palácio Pedro Ernesto, was led by the president of the Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ), Henrique Carlos de Andrade Figueira, who highlighted that the moment is one of happiness for those elected, but also of great responsibility.
“You have to take care of our population, our people. This work is difficult, but the pleasure of performing the role will certainly lead them to good paths and good practices, always seeking harmony between the powers”, stated the president of TRE-RJ.

The diplomaization is carried out after all deadlines for processing elections and questioning the results have passed. It certifies that the candidate is capable of taking on the role.
The next step is the inauguration ceremony, scheduled for January 1, 2025, when the mandates that end in December 2028 begin.
Tarcísio chooses lawyer for the position of São Paulo police ombudsman
Mauro Caseri’s appointment was published in this Wednesday’s edition (18) of the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo. He was chosen from a triple list and will succeed the current ombudsman, Cláudio Silva
Fourth term
The graduates did not make speeches, but, on his social networks, Eduardo Paes celebrated the official results of the polls, which granted him his fourth term as head of the Rio de Janeiro Executive.
“The feeling is the same as I had there in 2008: the same emotion, the same joy, the same butterflies in my stomach and the same desire to get up early every day to fight for a better Rio. Thank you very much to the people of Rio for the opportunity to be mayor of the most incredible city of all!”, stated Paes.
He was re-elected in the first round with more than 1 million and 80 thousand votes, which corresponds to 60.47% of the valid votes.
Even considered by opponents as one of the most skillful politicians in the country, Eduardo Paes secured, in the first round, his fourth term as head of the capital of Rio de Janeiro – the second in a row. He had already governed Rio for two periods, between 2009 and 2017, invariably with a very positive assessment of his management.
After another successful election in Rio, Paes’ natural path seems to be a new attack by the state government, in 2026 – he ran for office twice, in 2006 and 2018, but was defeated both times. The elected vice-mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, was personally chosen by Paes and is the mayor’s faithful squire, who considers him capable of taking over the municipal government if the incumbent leaves the post in two years.
The City Council will have 21 new councilors. Of the total of 51 elected or re-elected, 12 are women and 16 are black or mixed race.
