Right-wing governors organize a delegation to RJ in support of Castro after the operation

Right-wing governors organize a delegation to go to Rio de Janeiro and provide support to the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (PL), in the wake of the mega police operation that left more than a hundred dead in the state capital.

The governor complains about the lack of support from the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), while the Palácio do Planalto sees an attempt to politicize the issue as the elections approach.

According to the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União), the decision was taken on the morning of this Wednesday, 29th, in a video conference meeting in which governors Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP), Romeu Zema (Novo-MG), Jorginho Mello (PL-SC) and Mauro Mendes (União-MT) also participated.

The meeting with Castro is expected to take place in the late afternoon of Thursday, the 30th. At least for now, Tarcísio’s presence is not planned.

“We will all be in Rio de Janeiro to show solidarity with Governor Cláudio Castro and at the same time also offer support to the security forces of the State of Rio de Janeiro”, said Caiado.

Jorginho Mello was designated as the coordinator of the movement and intends to extend the invitation to heads of the Executive of other States – the Santa Catarina government did not inform who the other guests were.

“Our proposal is that governments provide men from their police, both in the intelligence area and in personnel, to assist Rio de Janeiro at this time. The fight against organized crime cannot have borders. It is everyone’s responsibility”, stated Mello.

Governors should also follow a suggestion from Zema and use the opportunity to pressure the National Congress to approve the bill that equates criminal factions with terrorists.
