Ronaldo Caiado officially joins the PSD in search of running for President
The governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado, officially joined the Social Democratic Party (PSD) this Saturday, 14th, in the municipality of Jaraguá, around 120 kilometers from Goiânia. Upon arriving at the event, he said that the municipality “has always been lucky”.
“Every time I launched my campaigns here I won, and I won in the first round. Daniel (Vilela) will also win in the first round”, he said, referring to his vice-president’s pre-candidacy for state government.
Internally, Ronaldo Caiado is competing for the presidency with governors Ratinho Junior (Paraná) and Eduardo Leite (Rio Grande do Sul).
The meeting called “Pra Frente Goiás” brought together the national president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, the vice-governor, Daniel Vilela (MDB), as well as pre-candidates for the senate Gracinha Caiado, Vanderlan Cardoso, Zacharias Calil and Alexandre Baldy.
A month after the announcement that he would change his acronym, made alongside Gilberto Kassab (PSD), the governor had not yet made the change of party official, as shown in a document from the Electoral Court obtained by Estadão/Broadcast.
In an interview with the website The Popularfrom Goiás, the governor stated that he had not made the affiliation official because he was waiting for this Saturday’s event.
PSD should announce presidential candidate this month
In a post on social media, the national president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, indicated that the party will announce by the end of March the name that will contest the Presidency of the Republic in this year’s elections.
“The candidate has not yet been chosen. The PSD will announce by the end of March who will take these proposals as an alternative to polarization, which dominates and paralyzes Brazilian politics and administration with themes that contribute little to solving Brazil’s most urgent demands”, wrote the leader.
Initially, the candidacy would be announced in April, but there are reports of pressure for Kassab to announce the name this month.
