RS Mounts Sanitary Barreiras in Montenegro to contain aviary flu

The Rio Grande do Sul State Government began the assembly of seven sanitary barriers to contain the focus of avian influenza in the municipality of Montenegro (RS), where the detection of the high pathogenicity virus was confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) last Friday (16).

By the beginning of Saturday night (17), five of the seven barriers had already been installed. Two barriers are planned on BR-386, one north on RS-124, another on TF-10, in the Triunfo (RS) direction, and three on back roads.

“The goal is to inspect all living cargo vehicles, those that carry feed and collect milk, which are vehicles that circulate in various rural properties. Within three kilometers the passenger cars will also be disinfected. Pedestrians are not the focus of the action,” the government said in a statement.

The barriers will work together with the Environmental Patrol (Patram), from the Military Brigade, and the city hall, with operation 24 hours a day. Sanitary control points are installed within three to ten kilometers from the disease site.

The State Government also reported that there will be about 540 rural properties within ten kilometers from the focus of the disease for evaluation and sanitary education actions.

Montenegro City Hall stressed in a statement that the risk of infection in humans by avian flu is very low and most often occurs between keepers or professionals who have intense contact with animals.
“These people are being monitored and have no symptoms of the disease,” says the note.

The municipal administration also requested understanding of residents regarding changes in the city’s traffic roads due to sanitary blocks.

“Deviations on roads and temporary flow interruptions may occur. There is no reason for panic.”
