Russian sea destroys ‘enemy submarine’ after Trump’s threat
“After practicing anti -submarine tasks, the crew of the Russian and Chinese ships thanked each other for their fruitful work.”
Trump said his order on submarines last Friday was made in response to what he called “highly provocative” comments from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev about the risk of war among nuclear weapons opponents.
Kremlin has minimized this week the importance of Trump’s announcement, saying that US submarines are in constant combat service anyway, and that “everyone should be very careful with nuclear rhetoric.”
The episode took place at a delicate moment, with Trump threatening to impose new sanctions on Russia and buyers of his oil, including India and China, unless President Vladimir Putin Concorde, until Friday, ending the three-and-a-half year war in Ukraine.
Anti-submarine exercise was part of a wider series of Russian-Chinese naval exercises last week.
The two countries, which signed a “boundless” strategic partnership shortly before Russia entered Ukraine in 2022, perform regular military exercises to rehearse coordination between their armed forces and send a deterrent signal to opponents.
