Senate CCJ rejects unanimous armor PEC
The Senate Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) rejected on Wednesday (24) the proposal of amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the armor, which expanded the protection of parliamentarians in court. The decision was unanimous, which, by the housewood, prevents resources and closes the proposal.
The PEC had been approved by the House of Representatives last week, but faced a strong reaction in the Senate. CCJ President Otto Alencar (PSD-BA) accelerated the analysis and guided the vote a week after receiving the text. He chose as rapporteur Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE), who positioned himself against.

Vieira’s opinion called the proposal as a “fatal blow” in Congress’ legitimacy and stated that the real goal would be to turn the legislature into a “safe shelter for criminals of all kinds”.

During the discussion, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) defended the proposal as a way to protect the Congress of Ministers of the Supreme Court, whom he called the “category that is above the law.” Already Magno Malta (PL-ES) said supporting the return to the model of the original constitution to reduce STF pressures on parliamentarians.
With the CCJ’s decision, Senate President David Alcolumbre (Union-AP) should only communicate the filing of PEC.
