STF holds event on Thursday to commemorate 3 years of the coup acts of January 8

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) will hold an event on Thursday, 8th, to mark three years since the acts of January 8, 2023, when hundreds of supporters of the former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro (PL) invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília.

The program begins at 2:30 pm with the opening of the exhibition “January 8: Hands of Reconstruction”.

Afterwards, the documentary “Unshaken Democracy: Hands of Reconstruction” will be shown. Afterwards, the Supreme Court promotes a conversation with press professionals and, finally, a panel with experts.

Minister of the STF gave five days for the Federal Police to comment on the allegation of discomfort caused by air conditioning in the place where the former president is serving his sentence

Among the ministers, only the presence of the President of the Court, Edson Fachin, has been confirmed so far. The Judiciary is on recess for the entire month of January.

This is the third consecutive year that the Supreme Court has held events in memory of the coup acts. But this is the first time that the event has occurred after the conviction of those responsible for organizing the attacks.

For the STF, January 8th was part of the coup plan that sought to keep Bolsonaro in power.

The former president was sentenced in September to 27 years and three months in prison, and the sentence began to be served in November.

Palácio do Planalto will also hold an event

Palácio do Planalto will also hold an event to mark three years of the coup acts on Thursday, at 10 am.

According to Secom, the event will have the participation of authorities and representatives of civil society, without detailing names.
