Several districts in the south of Portugal, including Faro, are on orange alert this Saturday due to the bad weather that has hit the country in recent days.

An octogenarian couple had already been found dead on Thursday in their residence south of Lisbon due to flooding caused by the heavy rain that fell that night.

Since Wednesday, Portuguese Civil Protection has recorded more than 3,300 occurrences, most of them relating to flooding and falling trees, across the continental territory due to the passage of the storm.

In the United Kingdom, serious flooding hit the city of Monmouth and neighboring areas in southeast Wales. “Storm Claudia caused significant flooding across parts of Wales overnight, which continues to affect homes, businesses, transport and energy infrastructure,” a Welsh Government spokesperson said.

Aerial footage showed widespread flooding in Monmouth, with water inundating the town center and residential areas after a nearby river burst its banks overnight.
